Aunts play a unique role in a child’s life.

Modern families tend to assume more complex configurations. That is why aunts have undoubtedly started to play an essential part in children’s upbringing. They are not only close relatives anymore, being an aunt is a way of life. It’s a special calling. Some women “aunt” as second mothers, friends, or teachers. They give an extraordinary kind of love to their nieces and nephews.

Parents teach and advise their kids, grandparents spoil them, and aunts provide all of this to their nephews and nieces. A kid is always happier with a loving and caring aunt who could positively influence the child’s life.

Calling All Aunties And Uncles

I had been an aunt for ten years before becoming a mom.

During this time I had the chance to look after my two nieces, take care of them, love them and teach them important things about life and love. And of course to spoil them. I am sure they remember the precious moments we had together. I’ve watched them grow up and become beautiful people. They are always on my mind and in my heart, And it wasn’t until I became a parent myself that I realized how much aunting had influenced me. How much I have learned about how to deal with children.

That is why I consider being an aunt a fantastic experience.

Here are nine reasons which make aunties’ role in their nieces’ and nephews’ lives so special and important.

1. Aunts might give a different view on life.

They could express an opinion which is different from the opinion of the parents. They can give a helping hand to their nephews and nieces for anything, from learning letters and numbers to advising them about a difficult situation.

2. Never miss an anniversary.

Aunts are always there to celebrate the birthday or the graduation of their nieces and nephews. They won’t miss an event no matter what they have to do – take a day off from work or fly to another country. On the top of that, aunts usually love to buy exciting and useful gifts for their nieces and nephews because spoiling them is fun!

3. They won’t miss a chance to hang out with the kids.

Sometimes aunties are even lucky enough to have fun things in common with their nieces or nephews. They could take them to different places and events such as museums, concerts, and festivals when they’re older. And they are always ready for a fun game with the kids in the backyard.

4. Aunties are always ready to give love and affection.

Aunts love giving the kiddos lots of hugs and affection. Cuddling with their nieces and nephews is a fantastic emotion and makes the connection between the nephews, the nieces and the aunts much stronger.

5. Aunts would listen to the problems that children can’t share with their parents.

When their niece or nephew needs advice and guidance, the aunties are always ready to help. Especially when it comes to a problem that the children wouldn’t share with their parents. Aunts are ready to listen to the kids and teenagers. They relate to their nieces and nephews and would love to help if they can. And the best part is that they know how to keep a secret.

6. Aunts teach values.

Aunts could act as a parent at times. They would teach children about values and how to tell what is right or wrong. It’s one of the most important roles they play. Seeing the children grow and change, and knowing that they were there to support them feels fantastic.

7. Aunts love taking care of the children.

Aunts love spending time with their nieces and nephews and would gladly look after them when the parents are busy. And the best of all is that aunts usually like to have fun and play!

8. Aunts stay kind even when the children are wrong.

Aunts are generally kinder and more relaxed and would be much more delicate if they have to correct bad behavior. They would seldom shout or fight. They usually listen, talk and explain what is wrong and how to act right.

9. Aunts are happy to have more nephews and nieces.

When a new niece or nephew is born aunts feel even more special. No matter how many they already have, it always feels lovely to have more kids to play with, to teach and to love. The bond between an aunt and her nieces and nephews will always stay strong if they spend valuable time together.

It is also important to celebrate the national Aunt and Uncle’s Day on July 26th.

National Aunt and Uncle’s Day gives us the chance to spend time with these precious relatives. It’s a day to tell them why we are so happy to have them in our family. On this day we can celebrate the lessons they’ve taught us and share them with the next generation. That is also a perfect occasion for the whole family to gather together, to look through the old pictures, and revive the memories of the happy days spent together. And of course, it is the perfect time to strengthen your relationship with your aunt and create new memories.
